Hydroxypropyl cellulose pellets
Drug Name(s): Lacrisert
Class: Ocular lubricants
Used for moderate to severe eye dryness associated with Sjögren’s syndrome.
Dosage
Form(s): eye insert
one pellet in lower lids once or twice a day
Special Instructions
Place pellets in lower eyelids. Add artificial tears to make pellets dissolve and to lock in moisture.
Potential Side Effects
Eye pain; eyelid swelling; irritation or redness of eyes; matting or stickiness of eyelashes; sensitivity to light; vision changes
Be Aware
Carefully follow directions for inserting the pellets in your eye. Improper placement could scratch your cornea. Avoid driving or using machinery until you know how your vision is affected. It may take several weeks to experience improvement.
