Cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion/solution

Drug Name(s): Cequa, Restasis, generic

Class: Immunosuppresants

Type: eye drop

Used to increase tear production in patients with dry eye (including Sjögren’s Disease).

Dosage

Form(s): Eye drop, single-use vial 

One drop in each eye twice per day, approximately 12 hours apart.

Special Instructions

Single-use vials must be used immediately upon opening and then discarded.

May be used with lubricant eye drops; allow 15-minute interval between products

Potential Side Effects

Blurred vision; burning, pain, itchy or stinging feelings in eye; eye discharge; sensation of having a foreign body in the eye

Be Aware

Cyclosporine is an immunosuppressant. Do not use if you have an eye infection. Do not wear contact lenses while using this medication. Cyclosporine may make you more likely to get infections and certain cancers.
