The Arthritis Foundation Launches “We Journey Together” Awareness Campaign

Campaign aims to create connections and combat isolation within arthritis community

ATLANTA (May 2, 2022) – The Arthritis Foundation today kicked off its new awareness campaign “We Journey Together,” in support of the over 1 in 4 Americans living with the nation’s number one cause of disability — and the people who love them. Launched at the start of Arthritis Awareness Month, the campaign has the objective of creating connections for the arthritis community — for both patients and caregivers — in the month of May and beyond.

Nearly 60 million people in the U.S. are living with an arthritis diagnosis, and by 2040, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates the number will reach 78.4 million. And although arthritis is so prevalent, many patients report feeling isolated, especially after a diagnosis.

“A patient’s care team isn’t only made up of health care providers; it’s also the people they share their experience with,” said Steven Taylor, President and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation. “That’s exactly why we created We Journey Together. People with arthritis turn to us to be connected with the best expert resources, and most of all, a community that gets it. We’re uniting a community of helping hands, ready to help patients navigate the road ahead.”

A patient-driven organization, the Arthritis Foundation promotes life-changing resources and cutting-edge research, advocates for legislative and policy change at the state and federal levels and cultivates a community for patients to share tips and find support. Its passionate volunteers in all 50 states create meaningful connection-points for patients of all ages and backgrounds.

“The scale of arthritis and related conditions is enormous. We’re launching this campaign to reach more people living with arthritis and caring for people with arthritis — to help them know they aren’t alone,” said Sabrina Sexton, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Communications and eCommerce of the Arthritis Foundation. “Arthritis can affect anyone, including kids and teens, so our hope is that patients from all walks of life see themselves in every aspect of this campaign and gain hope from the idea that the Arthritis Foundation and our community of arthritis patients and supporters are with them in this journey. We can conquer arthritis together.”

The campaign’s emphasis on connections and community speaks to the inclusive nature of the Foundation’s programming and resources. Especially for recently diagnosed patients and those from underrepresented groups who face health disparities, Arthritis Awareness Month is full of ways to connect, learn and grow:

  • May 4: Recently Diagnosed: Everything You Should Know (Webinar)

  • May 10: Unequal Burden: Arthritis Health Disparities (Podcast)

  • May 19: Arthritis and African Americans: Powerful Solutions for Better Care (Webinar)

  • Throughout May: Walk to Cure Arthritis events across the country

  • All Year: Join a Live Yes! Connect Group to get support and strategies to live well

  • All Year: Set goals on the Vim pain management app to take back what pain tries to take away
