POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Search Marketing Strategist is responsible for overseeing search engine marketing (SEM) for the Arthritis Foundation. This includes developing digital content strategy and implementation plans for search engine optimization (SEO) of articles and areas within the Arthritis Foundation’s digital properties; creating ongoing analytics reports, based on web performance data, to guide the marketing team’s overall work; in charge of developing and executing the Arthritis Foundation’s paid search marketing efforts. Additionally, the Search Marketing Strategist is in charge of the blog – responsible for the strategy, editorial calendar, and procuring, editing and posting all blog entries.

The Search Marketing Strategist utilizes Google Analytics and other SEO support tools to execute, maintain and oversee web aspects of prominent annual campaigns and organizational goals. S/He works closely within MarCom and other cross-departmental teams to guide key content and digital initiatives, including improving content and optimizing user experience throughout various existing website areas and microsites, as well as making recommendations for additional content buildout opportunities to improve search engine rankings, readability, and usability. He/She will lead the organization’s Google ad word campaigns managing the organization’s Google Grants account.

The Search Marketing Strategist is also responsible for planning and creating high-level reporting on the web performance and web user behavior to inform decision making, progress, and digital direction on site content, ongoing and annual campaigns and other initiatives.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Identify SEO opportunities to improve rankings, readability and align quarterly/annual goals with the organization and then work with key stakeholders (pillars, other vehicle owners, etc.) to execute the strategies.
  2. Spearheads and creates web performance analytics reports to present macrotrends and web performance improvements recommendations that drive more traffic to our owned properties, increase engagement in marketing materials and inform the thinking of enewsletters and social media activities.
  3. Responsible for increasing website rankings through paid search marketing efforts and by collaborating with managers, content creators, and web developers to increase our organic search rankings.
  4. Creates and contributes to project plans that are aligned with organization and department goals to drive traffic to and increase consumption of specific tools and resources by relevant target audiences.
  5. Responsible for the Arthritis Foundation’s blog, including creation of the strategy, style guides, editorial calendars and planning the individual posts, enlisting writers and content producers and guiding and reviewing their work. The Search Marketing Strategist will also liaise and build relationships with external blog contributors including volunteers, experts, bloggers and people with arthritis.  

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, communications and/or a related field, with a minimum of 4-6 years’ experience creating and managing web content across an enterprise (can include equivalent education).
  2. Prior experience in web content, including blog content, is a plus.
  3. Experience with Google ad words required, specifically Google Grants knowledge a plus.
  4. Experience working in a content management system; experience with Crown Peak and Kentico CMS is a plus.
  5. Ability to conceptualize and develop high-quality/highly-convertible online communications (websites, landing pages, emails and related applications).
  6. Knowledge of and experience with working with HTML, SEO, SEM, PPC, and Google Analytics are all required.
  7. Demonstrated understanding of information architecture planning and strategy.
  8. Experience working in an online visibility management platform, such as SEMrush. 
  9. Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work both in multifaceted teams and independently.
