Overview
In its true form, a shrub is a little concoction made of fruit, sugar and vinegar that’s used to flavor a cocktail. It has become quite popular as a mocktail, often made with sparkling water or club soda. While bespoke cocktail bars craft their own homemade fruit vinegars, you can make a delicious, refreshing mocktail at home using store-bought juices and apple cider vinegar. This sweet and sour lower-sugar version is just at home at a backyard barbecue as it is on a holiday table.
Ingredients
2 Tbsp. orange juice
2 Tbsp. pomegranate juice

Directions
Step One
In a 12-ounce glass, stir together the orange juice, pomegranate juice and apple cider vinegar. Add ice, then fill the rest of the way with sparkling water and stir gently to blend. Garnish with the tangerine wheel and serve.
Chef’s Notes:
- To make a tangerine wheel garnish, slice a tangerine in half crosswise, then cut off a slice about ¼ inch thick. Slice into it from the peel to the center and hang the tangerine on the side of the glass.
- For a more festive, wintry drink, add a sprig of rosemary as a garnish. The oils from the rosemary will perfume the drink.
