Mycophenolic acid

Class: Immunosuppresants
Used to treat lupus nephritis (off-label).
Dosage
Form(s): capsule, delayed-release tablet
1000 mg twice daily to start. Dosage may be adjusted to 500 mgs to 3000 mgs per day.
Special Instructions
Do not crush, chew, or cut capsules or delayed-release tablets.
Take with a corticosteroid as directed by your doctor.
Potential Side Effects
Changes in laboratory blood levels including high levels of blood sugar; constipation; diarrhea; dizziness; fast heartbeat; headache; infections; low white and red blood cell counts; nausea and vomiting; swelling of the lower legs, ankles and feet, rash
Be Aware
Use during pregnancy is associated with increased risks of pregnancy loss and birth defects. Women of childbearing potential should use effective birth control and/or consider different treatment options. This drug is associated with increased risk of malignancies including lymphoma and skin cancers. Using this drug increases risk of infection, including opportunistic infection.
This drug is associated with blood disorders. Your doctor will monitor your blood while you take this medication to infection
Let your doctor know if you have active digestive system disease. This drug is associated with serious GI tract complication, including GI bleeding, perforations and ulcers.
This drug may cause exacerbation of Hereditary Deficiency of Hypoxanthine-guanine Phosphoribosyl-transferase (HGPRT), an inborn error of purine metabolism associated with uric acid overproduction and neurological manifestations.
Avoid live attenuated vaccines while using this medication.
