Prednisolone acetate (eye drops)

Drug Name(s): Pred Forte, Omnipred, generic

Class: Corticosteroids

Used to treat inflammatory conditions of the eye.

Dosage

Form(s): eye drops 

two drops four times a day

Special Instructions

Shake well before using. To apply drops, tilt your head back and look up. Pull down lower eyelid to create a pouch, then squeeze dropper directly over the eye. Close eyes for 1 or 2 minutes after applying drops.

Potential Side Effects

Cataracts; delayed wound healing; glaucoma; increased sensitivity of eyes to light; optic nerve damage; stinging, burning, itching of eyes; temporary blurred vision

Be Aware

Prolonged use of this drug may result in glaucoma with damage to the optic nerve. If you use this drug for more than 10 days your doctor will monitor your intraocular pressure. This drug may increase the risk of infections and worsen the severity of viral infections of the eye including herpes simplex.  Use of this drug after cataract surgery may delay healing.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breastfeeding.

If pain and inflammation persists more than 48 hours stop using this medication and speak with your doctor.
