Overview
While the immune-boosting benefits of lemon, ginger and turmeric are well documented, this belly-warming mocktail is also straight-up delicious — which means it’s as good on a winter sick day as it is by the fire pit on a summer evening. For a cold mocktail, multiply the ingredients by four and make a very strong version in a mug, then transfer to a 4-cup container, add water to cool, then serve over ice.
Ingredients
2 tsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice, or to taste
1 tsp. honey, or to taste
1 (¼-inch) slice fresh ginger
¼ tsp. ground turmeric
Pinch cayenne pepper (optional)

Directions
Step One
Put the lemon juice, honey, ginger, turmeric and cayenne, if using, into a 10- to 12-ounce mug. Add boiling water, let sit 2 minutes, then stir to combine. Season to taste with additional lemon, honey or cayenne, and enjoy.
Chef’s Notes:
- If you can find them, you can try adding slices of fresh galangal or turmeric roots as well.
- For a more herbal variation, skip the turmeric and cayenne and crush and add a 1-inch piece of lemongrass.
