Artificial Tears (lubricating drops)

Drug Name(s): Blink, Eye Relief, GenTeal, Refresh, Systane, generic (OTC)

Class: Lubricating eye drops

Used to relieve dry eyes associated with Sjogren’s syndrome.

Dosage

Form(s): drops or single-use vials

1 or 2 drops in affected eye(s) as needed.

Special Instructions

If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying drops.  Ask your doctor when/if you can wear contacts while using the drops.  

To apply drops, tilt your head back and look up. Pull down lower eyelid to create a pouch, then squeeze dropper directly over the eye. Close eyes for 1 or 2 minutes after applying drops.

Potential Side Effects

Blurred vision; mild burning, itching, redness or watering of eyes; sensitivity to light, burning, irritation, or redness of eyes

Be Aware

Artificial tears can cause temporary blurred vision. Avoid driving or using machinery until you know how this medication will affect you.
