Fluocinolone acetonide
Drug Name(s): Iluvien, Retisert, Yutiq
Class: Corticosteroids
Used to treat chronic non-infectious uveitis of the back part of the eye.
Dosage
Form(s): intravitreal implant
Insert will be placed by physician and can remain in place for up to 3 years
Special Instructions
This medication may cause temporary blurred vision. Do not drive or use machinery until you know how it affects you. This drug does not treat the underlying disease associated with uveitis. You will take separate medications for that. You will need periodic eye exams while you have implants in place.
Potential Side Effects
Blurred vision (temporary), burning or itching of eyes, drying or tearing, increased sensitivity to light
Be Aware
This drug can cause cataracts. Most people using this will require cataract surgery. Insert can increase risk of infections or mask or enhance existing infections.
Adverse reactions associated with this and other ocular steroids include the possible development of glaucoma, damage to the optic nerve, vision problems, and delayed wound healing. If you experience symptoms that don’t improve or become worse, call your doctor.
