Raising Awareness on Capitol Hill

A challenge in conquering arthritis is awareness. An active Congressional Arthritis Caucus helps teach everyone on the Hill about the toll arthritis takes on us all.

Raising Awareness with the Congressional Arthritis Caucus

The mission of the Congressional Arthritis Caucus is to serve as a clearinghouse for information on arthritis and a bipartisan forum to aid Members of Congress in working together to address arthritis. The Caucus works toward the goal of educating all Members about how arthritis impacts their communities and how to help support federal and local efforts that can address this chronic disease.

Why is the Congressional Arthritis Caucus Important?

Arthritis is our nation’s leading cause of disability.

This results in an annual $303 billion price tag from direct (medical) and indirect (lost earnings) costs.

54 million Americans have arthritis now.

This number is expected to climb to 78 million by 2040.

Arthritis affects job security.

According to the CDC, 1 in 20 working-age adults must change jobs, stop working entirely, or reduce the hours they work due to arthritis.

Barrier to treatment of other chronic diseases.

47% of adults with diabetes, 49% of people with heart disease, and 30% of obese adults also have arthritis.

Arthritis affects racial & ethnic populations disproportionately.

The prevelance of arthritis is lower, but the impact is greater. 44.6% of non-Hispanic Blacks and 43.2% of Hispanics with arthritis report activity limitation.

Limited state funding.

20 percent of the population in all 50 states has arthritis and only 13 states are receiving funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

More About Volunteering

Give Just 10 Minutes.

Tell us what matters most to you. Change the future of arthritis.

By taking part in the Live Yes! INSIGHTS assessment, you’ll be among those changing lives today and changing the future of arthritis, for yourself and for 54 million others. And all it takes is just 10 minutes.

Your shared experiences will help:

- Lead to more effective treatments and outcomes
- Develop programs to meet the needs of you and your community
- Shape a powerful agenda that fights for you

Now is the time to make your voice count, for yourself and the entire arthritis community.

Currently this program is for the adult arthritis community.  Since the needs of the juvenile arthritis (JA) community are unique, we are currently working with experts to develop a customized experience for JA families.

How are you changing the future?

By sharing your experience, you’re showing decision-makers the realities of living with arthritis, paving the way for change. You’re helping break down barriers to care, inform research and create resources that make a difference in people’s lives, including your own.
