The Arthritis Foundation, Southeast Region's Mississippi office serves all counties across the state and is actively working to reduce the unacceptable impact of arthritis on the lives of 647,000 adults and an estimated 3,100 children in our state. In fact, 50 million adults and approximately 300,000 children nationwide have a doctor-diagnosed form of arthritis making it the nation's leading cause of disability. Camp M*A*S*H (Make Arthritis Stop Hurting) is coming up and we'll be "Cruisin' Through the Decades" this summer! Camp is open to children ages 7 to 17 with juvenile arthritis or a related disease, and is provided at no cost. Applications are due by April 15th!
On May 31st, Arthritis Foundation President and CEO Dr. John H. Klippel joined HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in support of changes to the government insurance programs that will make it easier for Americans with pre-existing conditions to get health insurance coverage. The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Program (PCIP) will offer more Americans with chronic conditions, like arthritis, access to affordable coverage. The PCIP is for people who are unable to purchase coverage due to a specific pre-existing medical condition.
