Teneli's Story

Teneli is in third grade and recently started her second year of soccer with the North Coast Futbol Club. She enjoys playing piano and chess and even won first place at a recent tournament.

Teneli was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) when she was 3 years old. Both her knees and her left wrist have been affected by the disease. Through excellent medical care at Kaiser Oakland, Teneli has been able to keep flare ups at bay and maintain an active lifestyle. She loves playing soccer, swimming and tennis. Throughout the year, she participates in 5K races.

Living with arthritis has made Teneli into a child who perseveres through whatever challenges life has presented in her young life. She has only known a life of living with arthritis. Many who know Teneli have commented on her sweet and strong disposition. While there may not be a correlation between arthritis and her personality, there is no doubt that arthritis has contributed to the strong person that Teneli is today. She will continue to persevere and overcome any challenges that await her.

This last July, Teneli had an amazing time while attending Camp Milagros, a summer camp for kids with juvenile arthritis. Her favorite activities were rock climbing and meeting new friends.
