2011 Volunteer Advocacy Awards
The Public Policy and Advocacy Department is excited to present two volunteer awards for 2011: The Edward M. Kennedy Advocacy Leadership Award and the Emerging Leader in Advocacy Award. Download the application materials and criteria and apply today!
Recipients of the awards will receive a two night hotel stay and roundtrip airfare to the Annual Meeting of the Arthritis Foundation held November 17-19, 2011 in Beverly Hills, California to receive the award. Additionally, winners will also receive up to $1,000 reimbursement for participation in the 2012 Advocacy Summit held March 12-14 in Washington DC.

The Arthritis Foundation Public Policy and Advocacy Department in Washington, D.C. is seeking an intern for the Winter semester. Come gain practical, hands-on-experience working for a non-profit patient advocacy organization. The Department focuses on federal advocacy, policy analysis, issue tracking, and training and support for our grassroots advocates.
Despite how common these diseases are,awareness – which can lead to earlier diagnosis, better treatments and improved outcomes, more research funding and a steady supply of physicians trained to treat these diseases – isn’t as high as it should be. Raising Our Voices to Fuel Arthritis Research
“Advocacy is critical to funding research,” says Arthritis Foundation Vice President for Advocacy Amy Melnick. “There are so many different health issues competing for the same dollars... We are the only nonprofit organization specifically dedicated to arthritis research, advocacy and education support. So we are able to convene the best and the brightest from every organization to determine and pursue the best directions for research.”
CDC Study Confirms that Arthritis Strikes 3 Million U.S. Hispanics and Latinos
