The Iowa office of the Arthritis Foundation is part of the Heartland Region, a six-state area comprised of local offices in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois and Indiana. Each state serves its constituents with at least one service office with dedicated staff and volunteers.
Did you know 50 million American adults and one in five Iowans have at least one form of arthritis? Are you or someone you know one of the more than 564,000 adults and 2,800 children in the state of Iowa living with a form of arthritis or chronic joint pain? Arthritis is one of the nation's most common causes of disability, and affects not only adults, but over 300,000 children across the United States.
Last year, the Arthritis Foundation donated more than $22,000 worth of free information including brochures, physician referral and resource materials to the people of Iowa. In addition, the Arthritis Foundation annually gives more than $150,000 to the University of Iowa Hospitals for arthritis-related research. Within the next ten years, it is our hope we will have found a cure for rheumatoid arthritis.
May is Arthritis Action Month
Throughout May, the Arthritis Foundation urges taking action to change the course of arthritis. From participating in a nearby Arthritis Walk, to improving your health through fitness and nutrition, to speaking out about the seriousness of arthritis – there's a lot you can do to raise awareness and reduce the impact of the nation's leading cause of disability.
RA Scholarships are available! Be one of 30 people diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or a family member and receive a one-time scholarship of up to $5,000.
