Bailey’s Story
At just 3 years old, Baily was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis. She is now in middle school and is thriving. While she faces daily struggles, she’s learning to live well despite her chronic illness.
Bailey Christensen was diagnosed with polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) when she was three years old. What started out as a swollen knee and a precautionary visit to the doctor turned into an unexpected diagnosis and a lifelong fight against a chronic autoimmune disease.
Bailey started middle school this year and is thriving. The path is not always easy as she faces relentless pain, a multitude of doctor visits and treatment, and missed school and social activities. Her limited mobility can be difficult and she often just wants to be a normal kid without the limitations.
Despite living with JIA, Bailey loves to play outside, ride her bike, dance, swim and hang out with her friends. She is active in her youth church group and reads everything she can get her hands on. She has daily challenges but remains tough. She rarely complains or backs down from a challenge. She has a positive attitude and doesn’t let arthritis define her.
