Daniel's Story
While training for a triathlon in 2016, Daniel began to experience joint pain for the first time. The pain made it impossible for him to participate in any of the sports he loved.
Daniel Couper is a 23-year-old medical student who has been living with psoriatic arthritis since he was in the fifth grade. One day while receiving a haircut from a family member, Daniel noticed his scalp was covered in red plaques and flakes. This is when he first found out he had psoriasis.
In college, Daniel developed an interest in endurance sports, such as running and cycling. While training for a triathlon in 2016, he began to experience joint pain for the first time. The pain made it impossible for him to participate in any of the sports he loved. It also made once simple things, like doing laundry and walking to class, very difficult.
After learning about the Arthritis Foundation, Daniel felt very proud and excited to be a part of such a great and meaningful cause. He feels a personal connection to the mission of the Foundation because the exact cause of his own condition is unknown. Further research into the cause could greatly improve how it is treated or cured.
