Emily’s Story
Years of trial and error treatments have made it difficult for Emily to do the things she loves. New therapies give her hope that she can be more active in the future.
Emily Smith first learned about rheumatoid arthritis (RA) when she was diagnosed at 24. Though she had no idea what RA was initially, through the years she’s come all too familiar with the disease. Pain and inflammation targeted her hands, elbows, knees and ankles. Performing everyday tasks, like walking and getting dressed, became difficult and caused Emily to be in excruciating pain.
As an active person, Emily had difficulty not being able to go places with friends and family, and she often felt like giving up. Thankfully, a rheumatologist has been able to find a new treatment plan that has brought her some relief. While she still has setbacks, she remains positive and doesn’t let bad days break her spirit.
