Caroline's Story
Caroline is always on the move and enjoying her life to the fullest. She wants other kids with arthritis know that they’re not alone.
Caroline Broadbent is like most 7-year-olds. She is a hard-working student who loves to participate in all kinds of activities and sports. She plays the piano and loves to hang out with her friends and family. But she has also been living with arthritis since the age of 2.
After developing a limp and swollen ankle, Caroline’s parents sought medical treatment. When she was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), Caroline’s parents had no idea kids got arthritis.
This newfound awareness about kids living with arthritis brought with it a noticeable change in Caroline’s life. Frequent doctor visits, lab tests and regular medications became the norm. Missing school and beloved activities due to appointments and occasional flare ups were not uncommon. When asked how arthritis has changed her life, Caroline is quick to tell you, “I have to take medicine every week that I don’t like!”
With her arthritis now managed by medication and amazing doctors, Caroline has learned that this disease is one she will have to manage her entire life. Caroline and her parents work hard to stay positive and do all the things she loves to do, despite her disease. Whether it’s swimming, gymnastics, golf or piano, Caroline is always on the move and enjoying her life to the fullest.
