Lily's Story
Juvenile arthritis pain made it difficult for Lily to get out of bed. Learn how she’s taking back childhood with new treatments and a positive attitude.
Lilly was diagnosed before her second birthday with oligoarticular juvenile arthritis (JA). Her hips, knee and toe were so inflamed that she was unable to walk like a normal toddler should. This type of arthritis is also associated with the development of eye inflammation called uveitis. If left untreated, it could lead to blindness.
Lilly has regular visits with her rheumatologist, ophthalmologist and pediatrician. She undergoes weekly injections to help fight her disease. Since the medication is a low dose of chemotherapy, Lilly must also undergo regular blood work.
Before treatment, Lilly would struggle to get out of bed, taking up to an hour to finally start walking. Thanks to physical therapy and her medication, she is now able to walk, run, play and stay as active as a kid should. Lilly has been through so much, but she has exemplified strength and courage since the day she was diagnosed. She is the friendliest little girl and has such a huge heart. She loves to sing, dance and work on cars with her dad.
