Philip Ruth's Story

Philip Ruth from Hot Springs, Arkansas was diagnosed with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis when he was 39 years old. Stating, “I knew something was wrong as I ached all over and was constantly tired.”  After many years of suffering from worsening symptoms, Philip was connected to a local rheumatologist that diagnosed his arthritis and began a treatment plan. 

Throughout the years, Philip has had multiple surgeries to help reduce pain, replace joints, and to stabilize his spine.  He also takes several prescription medications to reduce joint destruction and inflammation daily.  

Philip wants people to understand that arthritis is not a diagnosis of giving up but rather one that requires you to deal with the negatives of the disease but also stay positive in life.   

He believes supporting the Arthritis Foundation is important to continue research, education, and provide connections and support.  Philip currently serves as the Chair of the Arkansas Leadership Board and he continues to serve as an Arthritis Foundation Ambassador going above and beyond to build strong relationships with Members of Congress and to advocate the Foundation’s policy priorities. He achieved Platinum Ambassador status 3 times receiving a travel award to attend the annual advocacy summit in Washington DC.
