2022 National Walk to Cure Arthritis Honoree: Lily Frick
Lily Frick of New Jersey recently went into remission from arthritis. But before that, she had to ensure the grind of having weekly shots for many years. All along, however, she didn’t let arthritis define her. Despite limitations her arthritis caused, she has just shifted her plans. Swimming is her favorite activity — because it's easy on her joints. In the year ahead, as captain of her swim team, Lily will be speaking up about why arthritis must be cured.
During the past 15 years, Lily’s local Walk to Cure Arthritis Flower Power team has raised over $100,000 to advance arthritis research and resources. “I know that many people are not as fortunate as I am. And I think about that on a daily basis,” Lily says. “I have never let my arthritis define me. I was diagnosed at 18 months, so I do not know a life without it. But I have tried my best to live my entire life like I do not have it.”
Lily has also gotten very involved in local JA family days. Additionally, she created two fundraisers to raise more money to find a cure. Her “Lipscrubs for Lily” fundraiser sold flavored lip scrubs and her “Loom for Lily” fundraiser sold special bracelets, both to generate support for our mission.
“I spoke at MetLife Stadium when I was the youth honoree for Walk to Cure Arthritis in 2016,” she continues. “I’ve shared my story on Instagram. And as leader on my swim team, I will lead chants for our cause to conquer arthritis together.”
