JA Family Camp

True to the name, our family camps are fun experiences for the whole family. Come and enjoy the many amazing activities planned for the kids AND for you!

Overview

We are excited you’re considering signing up for a JA family camp! We recognize that juvenile arthritis affects the whole family unit and each member deserves time for rejuvenation and support from others who “get it”. Our family camps are an overnight camping experience and activities are provided for children with arthritis, their siblings, and their parents/guardians.

We want to assist you in preparing for a wonderful experience. Getting ready for camp is an important part of the overall camp experience. This preparation time is an opportunity to build excitement for camp and answer any questions you may have.

Camp Activities

Activities vary by camp, but they traditionally include summer activities like arts and crafts, swimming, high and low ropes courses, drama, improv, games and especially campfires! Special education tracks and networking opportunities for families may be available as well so be sure to inquire about your specific needs. All of the activities are a blast and offered in a fun, casual, low-pressure environment.

Camp Goals

The best part about family camp is the opportunity to meet other families going through similar challenges, share stories, learn, and make enjoyable memories together.
Everything we do at family camp is done with the intent that all participating families will:

  • Gain a greater understanding of the juvenile arthritis diagnosis and treatment

  • Develop peer-to-peer support

  • Increase independence and self-confidence

  • Discover new skills and interests

  • Develop the skills they need to be leaders, advocates, and champions in their everyday lives

What to expect

  • Our family camps are fun experiences for the whole family—kids with arthritis and related rheumatic diseases, parents, and even siblings are invited.

  • Many of our counselors and volunteers, who live with juvenile arthritis and other childhood rheumatic diseases themselves, serve as positive role models for your children at camp.

  • We have a variety of unique activities customized for the kids AND for the entire family unit.

  • Your family member troubled with arthritis will connect with others who also live with childhood rheumatic disease, and their siblings will grow to understand that they’re not alone in their particular journey either.

  • Our camps focus on growth, in unexpected and wonderful ways.
