Massage Envy and Arthritis Foundation Together Win Cause Marketing Forum Award
Halo Award win recognizes “Healing Hands Bring a Powerful Punch Against Arthritis” campaign achievements
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. and ATLANTA, Ga. (June 2, 2016) – Leveraging the strength of a five-year national partnership, Massage Envy and the Arthritis Foundation have been named winners of a Gold Cause Marketing Halo Award in the Best Transactional Campaign category for their Healing Hands Bring a Powerful Punch Against Arthritis campaign. Supporting the 5th Annual Healing Hands for Arthritis® event, both Massage Envy and the Arthritis Foundation were honored for the campaign today at the 14th Annual Cause Marketing Forum in Chicago.
The Healing Hands for Arthritis® event is an epic one-day national fundraising and awareness campaign that took place at over 1,000 Massage Envy locations across the country on September 16, 2015; each Massage Envy location had a fundraising goal of $2,000. To successfully accomplish this, Massage Envy and the Arthritis Foundation created an integrated cause marketing campaign plan incorporating advertising, digital, public relations and individual in-clinic outreach.
“This year, we really wanted to take awareness of the Healing Hands for Arthritis® event to another level to maximize fundraising and share how massage therapy can enhance the lives of those affected by arthritis, help them cope and better deal with stress and pain management,” said Debbie Gonzalez, chief brand officer at Massage Envy. “The Healing Hands Bring a Powerful Punch Against Arthritis campaign was a joint effort between us and the Arthritis Foundation and we are so thankful and thrilled to be recognized as a Gold Cause Marketing Halo Awards winner for a cause that is so meaningful.”
In total, more than 62,000 total in-clinic services were performed on Sept. 16, 2015 for Healing Hands for Arthritis Day, raising $1.1 million. This total includes $473,207 in “fish bowl” donations and $11,717 donated by Massage Envy retail partners who donated 10 percent of Massage Envy retail sales from Murad, Performance Health (Biofreeze and Bon Vital) and Wyndmere.
“For five years our partnership with Massage Envy has aligned perfectly with our mission to be the “Champion of Yes” for those who live with arthritis and bring awareness to the benefits and relief massage therapy can provide,” said Ann M. Palmer, president and chief executive officer of the Arthritis Foundation. “Healing Hands for Arthritis is such a successful event for the Arthritis Foundation and Massage Envy, and to have the annual campaign be recognized by the Cause Marketing Forum validates the power of this type of collaboration.”
To date, Healing Hands for Arthritis® has raised more than $4 million. The partnership has provided the Arthritis Foundation an entirely new network of individuals to reach through Massage Envy members to know the Arthritis Foundation is available as a resource. In turn, the Arthritis Foundation has provided Massage Envy with access to educate their 25,000+ therapists and estheticians on arthritis and how to care for those with arthritis when they come in for a massage or facial.
“Gone are the days when adding a charitable angle to a consumer- or employee facing initiative was new and novel,” said David Hessekiel, president, Cause Marketing Forum. “The Healing Hands Bring a Powerful Punch Against Arthritis was recognized for going beyond the basics to offer a unique partnership able to draw attention and engagement.”
