POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Arthritis Foundation is seeking a UX/UI Designer with a strong visual background and an understanding of the process and techniques of converting graphical interfaces into digital interactions.  This person will collaborate closely with the marketing team and IT teams on the new arthritis.org website from concept to completion - from sketches and conceptual wires to high-fidelity designs, development and user testing. A good UX/UI designer is obsessed with user centric design practices and has a keen eye for detail. They are fluent in responsive design with mobile first UX/UI. Our ideal candidate will translate designs to produce visual and functional elements of the application. The work will contribute to all aspects of design, including desktop, mobile web, tablet, mobile apps (iOS & Android) and emails. 


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Create, develop, and deliver designs based off existing style guides and defined modules.
  2. Create new website modules to fulfill business requirements. Build reusable and scalable components.
  3. Define interaction models, user flows, and UI specifications.
  4. Create wireframes, high-fidelity designs, renderings and prototypes.
  5. Work with the Director of Digital Experience to plan how current campaigns, projects, and tools will transition to the new arthritis.org website.
  6. Work closely with the development partner and the IT team to execute UX strategy.
  7. Participate in the migration of content to the new site.
  8. Organize user testing, A/B testing, Heuristic analysis and WCAG compliance issues.
  9. Seek opportunities to improve daily workflow and efficiency from ideation to deployment.
  10. Continuously look for ways to improve the performance and user experience of our site. Analyze google analytics and reports to assess better strategies for our site.
  11. Work closely with the MarCom and IT teams on strategic concepts and delivery (EX: decision trees, quizzes, other engagement concepts).
  12. Implement responsive web design principles across multiple devices.
  13. Stay abreast of latest and emerging technologies.



  1. 3-5 years of experience with UX/UI design and build required
  2. Solid understanding of wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows and site maps
  1. Proficient in Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator or other visual design and wire-framing tools
  2. A solid grasp of user-centered design (UCD), user research, user testing, A/B testing, rapid prototyping, heuristic analysis, usability and accessibility concerns.
  3. Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JQuery and other Web and Mobile Frameworks
  4. Knowledge and understanding of SEO, SEM and Google Analytics a plus
  5. Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to work around them
  6. Effective problem solver who is not afraid to present innovative solutions
  7. Expert written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail
  8. Portfolio demonstrating your expertise and ability to articulate your process
  9. Positive attitude, collaborative spirit and openness to giving and receiving feedback
  10. Working knowledge of Marketo is a plus
