POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the SVP Marketing, Communications & eCommerce will lead all aspects of the vision and executable strategy for the Foundation’s marketing plan. We will rely on the SVP to oversee all strategic initiatives to increase business leads as well as tactical execution of the strategy for the Foundation.  The SVP will also lead the critical effort to use communications and marketing to build relationships with and engage stakeholders, supporters and constituents, to increase the visibility of the Arthritis Foundation and to connect the Foundation’s work to finding a cure for arthritis. As a senior leader in the organization, the SVP Marketing, Communications & eCommerce will participate in overarching strategic planning and decision-making and will help guide efforts to shift the Arthritis Foundation, nationally and throughout the regions, into becoming a high-performing, 21st century communicating, engagement-driven organization. 

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS 

Within The Foundation 

The SVP maintains frequent and close working relationships with members of the Foundation’s Senior Leadership Team, other staff, and volunteers as appropriate to accomplish the Foundation’s brand-building objectives.  Provides marketing expertise and counsel to staff and volunteers.  

Outside the Foundation 

The SVP Develops and maintains regular and frequent relationships with sponsors, vendors, professional groups and other organizations as appropriate to accomplish the Foundation’s communications and marketing plans.  Create a solid network of strategic partnerships to build brand awareness and drive new sales. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Create a vision and develop a comprehensive, integrated, and modern marketing-communication strategy and plan for web, digital, email, social and search marketing channels that will reach target segments quickly and effectively and facilitate enterprise goals. 
  1. Responsible for overseeing dynamic multichannel marketing campaigns. Ensures clear plan is developed, cross-functional teams are coordinating and metrics of success are established and met. 
  1. Lead the creation/production of inspiring design, content and campaigns that build the brand and drive business. 
  1. Ensure the brand is strong and aligned with the businesses vision and communicated internally and externally with efficiency, creativity and impact. 
  1. Develop and strengthen the businesses compelling voice to build brand awareness, relevance, reputation and esteem among target audiences. 
  1. Serve as message and content czar, and develops thought leadership content that drives inbound engagement, ensuring that we are telling consistent stories across the Arthritis Foundation’s various platforms. 
  1. Establish a best-in-class web presence that drives awareness and growth goals. 
  1. Execute a marketing / communications strategy aligned with COO, SVP Revenue Strategy, and Senior VP, Consumer Health & Impact that supports business hard revenue goals. 
  1. Work closely with colleagues from development, programmatic and operational departments to ensure our marketing and communications advance our fundraising, marketing and mission goals. 
  1. Works with others on the Senior Leadership Team on effective implementation and evolution of the brand strategy.  
  1. Develops appropriate forecasts in conjunction with marketing strategies and tactics and adjusts to reflect market realities.  
  1. Oversees and provides direction in obtaining and utilizing market and competitive analysis.  
  1. Provide expertise and insight with Google Analytics configuration, key word research, competitive research, and page optimization. 
  1. Manage day-to-day operations of the marketing and communications department, which will leverage online, creative, partnerships, executive positioning, and earned media assets for the purposes of connecting the Arthritis Foundation with target audiences on a greater scale. 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Master’s degree preferred - bachelor’s degree or equivalent required, preferably in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism or related field.
  1. At least 15 years of marketing and communications experience, including at least five years in senior management role and at least five years supervising staff is essential.
  1. A background in healthcare, corporate philanthropy, agency and/or nonprofit setting, preferably for nationwide organization with prominent brand is strongly preferred.   
  1. Diverse spectrum of marketing and communications experience, including collateral development, paid advertising, direct marketing, digital communications, publications, and consumer research will be essential.   
  1. Candidate must be a strong and effective leader and counselor with a documented track record of success helping organizations build prominent nationwide brands.  Incumbent will possess impeccable written and verbal communication skills.   
  1. A disciplined planner, who knows to chart the proper course first, then produces high quality marketing communications plans and materials that enable successful outcomes.
  1. Highly collaborative and strong consensus builder; capable of exercising positive influence in driving outcomes where formal authority might not exist;  
  1. Outstanding interpersonal skills to represent the Foundation with excellence in the C-suite of our corporate partners, with a prominent outside Board, and with our executives; and has excellent project management skills and client-centered orientation.
