POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Patient Engagement Director is charged with developing and managing the Arthritis Foundation’s patient engagement efforts.  The position is responsible for leading patient advisory councils and focus groups with targeted consumer segments (people with OA, RA, newly diagnosed, parents of kids with JA, etc.) to gather patient input.  Position is responsible for assimilating and disseminating patient input within the organization and with key organizational stakeholders.  In addition, the Patient Engagement Director is responsible for identifying and recruiting a pool of patients to facilitate internal and external patient engagement opportunities. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Patient council & focus groups:  Lead patient advisory panels and conduct focus groups with targeted consumer segments (people with OA, RA, newly diagnosed, parents of kids with JA, etc.) to engage patients in the Foundation’s work.  Develop a process to ensure a timely “feedback loop” with patients as well as infuse this patient perspective across the Foundation and its key stakeholders. 
  2. Patient recruitment:  Direct the development and implementation of the Arthritis Foundation’s patient recruitment initiatives.  Leverage best practices and work with cross-functional teams to establish recruitment policies, procedures and protocols.  Develop and grow a robust pool of patients that can quickly be deployed for internal and external needs.  Ensure execution within established parameters.   
  3. Patient training & involvement:  Ensure patients feel empowered to share their perspective and participate in various internal and external patient engagement opportunities. Develop and maintain an online portal that includes training resources and ways to become involved.  Work closely with staff across the organization (e.g., science, advocacy, etc.) to involve highly engaged patients in key initiatives. 
  4. Patient engagement insights dissemination:  Develop a process to ensure a timely “feedback loop” with patients as well as infuse the patient perspective across the Foundation and its key stakeholders.  Ensure both project specific feedback as well as aggregate/analyzed feedback overtime is compiled and shared. 
  5. Patient engagement leadership:  Promote the Arthritis Foundation as a leader in patient engagement.  Identify appropriate and relevant patient engagement opportunities to ensure the Foundation is present and is moving forward organizational initiatives and objectives. 
  6. Patient engagement budget management:  Responsible for projecting and managing expenses related to all patient engagement activities.
  7. Special patient engagement projects:  Direct the development and implementation of special projects as assigned.  This includes, but is not limited to, new opportunities developed through or with other departments or with outside agencies or business concerns.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor’s degree in market research, marketing, psychology or related fields.
  2. 4- 6 years of experience analyzing and interpreting qualitative data, or Master’s degree and 2- 4 years of experience.
  3. Experience working at a patient advocacy organization strongly preferred.
  4. Deep interest in understanding the patient’s perspective.
  5. Strong strategic and critical thinking skills.
  6. Experience moderating focus groups.
  7. Ability to quickly identify meaningful insights within large sets of data.
  8. Experience turning insights into opportunities and solutions.
  9. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  10. Understands business principles and terminology.
  11. Works collaboratively and proactively within a team environment, as well as independently.
  12. Willingness to work at both a strategic and tactical level.
  13. Strong knowledge in computer skills including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  14. This position requires travel.
