POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Patient Engagement Director ensures the patient voice is present with targeted, external partners by influencing protocols and processes to foster authentic cultures of patient engagement.  S/he serves as a patient engagement subject matter expert by advising on patient engagement best practices.  Ensures the patient perspective is central within new programs, polices, research and products through external relationships with government agencies, research entities, academia, and industry. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Patient engagement infrastructure: Influences protocols and programs to foster external cultures of patient engagement.  Develops a process to track and measure the impact of all external patient engagement activities.
  2. External engagement:  Ensures patient engagement is present across the landscape (e.g. government, industry, academia, etc.) by representing the patient perspective and ensuring patient perspectives are central in new/revised policies, research, and products.   
  3. Serves as a subject matter expert on patient engagement projects:  Bring patient engagement best practices and expertise to discussions on value frameworks; comparative effectiveness research; research awarding process; clinical trial protocol; FDA approval processes; clinical guidelines development; drug and device development; data analytics/economic modelling, and patient health data/EMRs
  4. Exhibit Leadership:  Participate in speaking opportunities, publication opportunities, and other media or academic events to promote and exalt the Foundation as the leader in patient engagement.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, public health or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  2. 10+ years of experience bringing the patient voice to government, research, academic, or industry initiatives in are areas of: value frameworks; comparative effectiveness research; research awarding process; clinical trial protocol; FDA approval processes; clinical guidelines development; drug and device development; data analytics/economic modelling, and patient health data/EMRs
  3. Extremely strong communication skills.
  4. Experience working with/on PCORI or PCOR projects a plus.
  5. Experience in rare disease and advance therapies a plus.
  6. Experience establishing a network of key opinion leaders.
  7. Experience turning insights into opportunities and solutions.
  8. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  9. Understands business principles and terminology.
  10. Works collaboratively and proactively within a team environment, as well as independently.
  11. Willingness to work at both a strategic and tactical level.
  12. Deep interest in understanding the patient’s perspective.
  13. Strong knowledge in computer skills including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  14. This position mandates significant travel.
