POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Arthritis Foundation is boldly pursuing a cure for America’s No. 1 cause of disability, while championing the fight against arthritis with life-changing resources, science, advocacy and community connections – and we want an intern who is motivated and impassioned about marketing communications, content/writing and public relations to join us for the summer!  

We’re searching for an energetic, quick-learning and nimble intern who has a hunger to learn and understand the dynamic and quick-changing industry of marketing communications. The successful intern will demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment, think critically and strategically and tackle a project from initiation to completion. A rock star intern will also be able to look at projects from a holistic standpoint and utilize strong problem-solving skills to find missing components, determine solutions and ask the right questions to get the right answers. A day may include attending meetings, taking notes, providing a content recommendation (what should be written and where it should live (blog, press release, story submission, etc.)) and then putting pencil to paper – laptop style!

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Write and proof content with grammatical accuracy, referencing brand standards 
  2. Moderate incoming content (such as user submitted posts) for specific campaigns
  3. Assist with research projects and information gathering
  4. Assist with media relations: list building, material writing

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Completed or working towards a B.A. in Marketing, or related course of study.
  2. Advanced understanding of English language, especially as it pertains to AP Style standards.
  3. Some experience in Content Management Systems, such as WordPress or Kentico, or design experience is preferred but not required.     
  4. Experience using Microsoft Office (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)

Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment, think critically and strategically about assignments and tackle a project from initiation to completion by taking direction well. The candidate should be able to look at projects from a holistic standpoint and utilize strong problem solving skills to find missing components, determine solutions and ask the right questions to get the right answers. The ideal candidate will acquire new skills quickly and have a nimble demeanor, as priorities shift quickly.

Candidate must have very strong writing and proofreading abilities and be experienced with Microsoft Office (e.g. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.). Must be able to attend meetings, take concise, detailed notes and follow direction, with strong attention to detail. Must be able to follow through on projects from start to finish, and to be able to think critically and operate consistently.  

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Assist with organizational and archiving projects to preserve creative assets 
  2. Work with Web Content Manager to make minor updates to CMS
  3. Proofread and edit content on an as-needed basis
  4. Participate in meetings, collaborate on proposals, and evaluate results
  5. Work with digital team on various projects as needed

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Completed or working towards a B.A. in Marketing, or related course of study
  2. Some experience in Content Management Systems, such as WordPress, is preferred but not required
  3. Must be very familiar with Microsoft products, such as Word, Excel, etc.
