POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Health Messaging Strategist is responsible for effectively developing and disseminating the Arthritis Foundation’s point of view on patient health issues.  This includes developing and disseminating health trends and predictions as well as working across the organization to gather and distill organizational priorities for patients and health care providers.  Furthermore, this position will recruit, develop and maintain a network of patients and other external professional contacts to exert influence via relationships and compelling narratives that position the Arthritis Foundation as a leader in identifying relevant health trends, understanding the patient perspective, and providing resources that meet patient needs.      

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Act as the primary steward of the Arthritis Foundation’s health messaging strategy, working to effectively develop and disseminate health trends and predictions through a variety of internal and external channels.
  1. Drive the department’s new leadership positioning program, which will capture and position the Arthritis Foundation as a leader in identifying relevant health trends, understanding the patient perspective, and providing resources that meet patient needs.  Develop and leverage a new network of patients and other external professional contacts to help influence leadership position. 
  1. Work across all levels of the organization to gather, assimilate and distill organizational priorities for patient and health care provider communications, ensuring alignment with company’s objectives and patient and/or health care provider gaps and needs.
  1. Develop organizational point of view on patient health issues, effectively understanding needs of all stakeholders (i.e. patients, health care providers, partner organizations, and other Arthritis Foundation stakeholders), writing and disseminating position in a way that positively influences divergent audiences.
  1. Develops and manages health messaging strategy budget. 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Health Management, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field.
  1. 10 + years progressive experience in health messaging and dissemination.
  1. Strong leader, collaborator, and demonstrated ability to manage and influence the efforts of internal/external partners to assure achievement.
  2. Superb writing, editing, and presentation skills; ability to adapt to and engage different audiences.
  1. Creative communications and corporate communications strategy development and execution experience.
  1. Corporate storytelling ability with strong skills in the ideation and development of compelling thought leadership in a variety of formats (e.g., e-mail, blogs, web, print, social media, etc.).
  1. Proven ability to understand research reports and distill it into compelling and clear messaging.
  1. Ability to develop budgets and timeline; ability to manage projects to deliver on time and within budget
  1. Self-starter, creative, strategic thinker; operational experience and expertise.
  1. Ability to develop and maintain a network of patients and other external professional contacts to exert influence.
