POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

This position is responsible for creating well-crafted, compelling and on-brand copy for a wide range of projects and initiatives across the department and organization-wide. Writing assignments include copy for print, email, blogs and web in both short- and long-form. S/he must be able to work well with others in a dynamic, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, be research savvy and tell powerful stories.

This position must adopt a variety of voices to effectively write advertisements with commercialized language as well as review informally-written, user-generated content and create content designed to engage those who are not familiar with our organization to consume more of our tips, tricks and ideas.

Expert proofer who is able to review a variety of materials written by others within the marketing department, board material, event material and fact sheets, white papers and reports written by non-marketing subject matter experts.  

This role interacts regularly with all areas of the Marketing and Communications team and with functions across the organization. S/he seeks appropriate reviews of messaging and makes required edits and follow-ups. Exceptional proofreading skills required. This position has regular contact with the production and traffic manager, art director, marketers and subject matter experts from all departments.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  1. Print and Digital Copywriting - Responsible for writing brand messaging copy for a variety of topics and materials in print and digital media, including our annual report, brochures, ads, event collateral, presentations and special projects.
  2. Work closely with the digital team to generate copy for online posting, including introductions, articles, blogs, news updates, newsletters, emails, user-generated blog posts and other online needs. Maintain an assignment schedule, collaborate with team members, conduct research, collect information and quickly deliver digital-ready messaging that meets best online practices.
  3. Event and Other Copywriting - Support the writing needs of the Foundation’s signature fundraising events, as well as major conferences, workshops, meetings and other initiatives. Includes scripts, presentations, programs and related collateral.
  4. Personalization - Apply personalization practices defined by the copy director to deliverables so that the way we talk about initiatives is tailored to the audience we are targeting.
  5. Maintain messaging and brand guidelines for the department and organization.
  6. Proofreading as needed, including newsletters, flyers and presentations drafted by marketing team members and reports and white papers produced by subject matter experts.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in English, journalism, marketing, advertising or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of professional copywriting experience across multiple platforms, including print and web-based.
  2. Must exhibit exceptional attention to detail and demonstrate high-quality deliverables.
  3. Proficient in Microsoft Office, have strong editing and proofreading skills, excellent command of grammar and spelling, and be trained in Associated Press style. Must think strategically and holistically, be a strong communicator and have excellent collaboration and customer service skills. Having a background in the health care arena is a plus.
