One day in early May 2011, my life changed forever. I woke up that morning with my wrist extremely swollen and sore. The pain extended into other places in my body but no one in my hometown of Rivesville, West Virginia had any answers. After two long years and 60 doctor appointments, I was finally referred to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. I saw Pediatric Rheumatologist Dr. Daniel Kietz, and my diagnosis was clear. At age 11, I had juvenile arthritis.
Many thoughts raced through my mind on what I could have done to cause this and how my life would change and I felt very alone. Luckily, Dr. Kietz assured me that certain things would be a struggle, but I could still achieve my goals and dreams. He took the time to go over every joint and explain to me that my body was always fighting.
I came to Pittsburgh often to see my doctor. It was in his office that I learned about the Arthritis Foundation and what they do to help the other 300,000 children like me and more than 52 million Americans living with arthritis.
The Arthritis Foundation is there for me nd other kids. They let us know that we are not alone. I know by helping them raise money, I am helping myself and many others fight this disease. I am proud to say I have raised over $5,000, and that money will go toward funding vital research, education, and programming.
Will you join me in the fight to end arthritis and find a cure? Please make a year-end gift to the Arthritis Foundation. You can do so by clicking here. I hope to help raise $10,000 through this letter. I think we can do it together.
