Visualization Exercises

Try these exercises to help your mind unleash its power.

Ease Your Pain

Sit or lie down. Breathe deeply. Visualize the top of your head as though you were seeing it in an X-ray. Take a deep breath, and imagine the pain and stress actually flowing out of your head. See your skull filling with a bright, healing light. Now take another breath. Visualize your shoulders and chest, and imagine the pain evaporating through your skin. Continue this scanning technique until you’ve given attention to the major parts of your body, focusing particularly on those areas that hurt.

Do What You Love

Get quiet. Relax and visualize an activity that is difficult to do because of your pain. Now, envision yourself performing it easily and happily. You feel great! Your body is moving perfectly. Now bask in the positive emotions as you complete your activity perfectly.

Make It Happen

Identify something you desire. Then, incorporate visualization into your daily activities – eating, dressing, brushing your teeth, climbing into your car. Every time you do one of these things, spend the first 20 seconds relaxing and the next 30 seconds visualizing your ideal event or goal. Experience the joy and happiness of achieving what you want. Imagine how good it would feel. Then proceed with your task.
