- Describe how to retain and recognize program personnel (leaders, instructors and trainers)
- Describe the Arthritis Foundation certification and recertification process and requirements
Although this chapter is primarily geared to Arthritis Foundation (AF) staff, information will also be useful to state health departments and partnering organizations that coordinate multiple program personnel. A lot of time, effort and expense is involved in recruitment and training. Getting individuals to meet their teaching commitment and to continue delivering classes over time requires ongoing efforts to nurture them and help them feel appreciated. Successful organizations keep valuable program personnel by providing a variety of retention and recognition activities. Failure to provide meaningful support not only leads to high drop out rates, but it also can increase your labor and program costs. In addition, good performance and behaviors that are unrecognized are likely to deteriorate or stop.
