From a Parent's Perspective
Sequoya S. had this to share after attending her first JA Conference:
My daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at age 7 and has struggled with learning to live with it. We had the opportunity to attend the JA Conference in Houston in 2009 where we met with so many others going through the same struggles. Attending the conference was an invaluable experience for us because it was a one-stop shop for information and answers regarding JA. It provided us with personal, and sometimes one-on-one access to the top professionals in the JA medical field. I was able to get important questions answered, which I was able to take home with me to discuss with Peyton's physicians.
The highlight for me was during the parents opening Meet & Greet session when we were able to share with each other our journeys through this complicated world of autoimmune diseases. Peyton's highlight was bonding with her awesome CALs, and meeting other kids who share the ups and downs she has. She now knows for herself she isn't a lone kid in this disease.
