For many young people, camp changes their life, not just for a week, but for a lifetime. Camp gives children with arthritis the opportunity to make those lifetime memories. Best of all, campers are able to meet and connect with other kids living with arthritis.
The week long camp focuses on what kids with arthritis can do, not what they can’t do. Campers are able to learn from others who have similar conditions and experiences. The program offers a safe environment of encouragement and is designed to increase campers’ self-esteem by creating opportunities for them to meet personal challenges. The camaraderie is instantaneous and friendships can last for years. Some campers have gone on to become camp counselors as young adults.
The camp offers most traditional summer camp activities such as campfires and singing, canoeing, fishing, arts and crafts, swimming and nature hikes. We also have activities that are adapted for all children, including: accessible rope challenge course, hand/foot driven catamarans, and adapted archery.
In addition to picking up some new interests, your child may learn new skills for better managing their arthritis and widening the scope of what they can do every day.
Camp is open to children with juvenile arthritis or a related disease.
