Agenda

Children & Teen Program

The program is organized by age groups, and each group will be supervised by a team of highly experienced program activity managers. Parents can concentrate on attending workshops and networking with other parents while their children are participating in a variety of age-appropriate activities. All activities are designed to help children and teens overcome obstacles, recognize and accept differences in themselves and others, and to build and maintain rewarding friendships that can last a lifetime. This program, along with several other planned recreational activities, will make this conference both a fun-filled and educational experience for all participants.

NEW TO JA 2013

The Arthritis Foundation is partnering with Corporate Kids Events (CKE) to ensure a quality program with high safety & security standards. Corporate Kids Events has organized and managed programs for kids of all ages for over 20 years, and parents trust and value the professional, high-quality care the CKE counselors consistently give to children. All CKE counselors are background-checked, reference checked and go through a CKE and Arthritis Foundation training. Arthritis Foundation volunteers will also be on hand to interact with the children and enrich their conference experience. Parents are required to complete and return permission and emergency consent forms for each child participating in the children and teen program. To learn more about CKE, visit www.conferencechildcare.com

CKE Program Managers are working closely with Arthritis Foundation staff and volunteers planning fun and exciting activities for all ages. The JA Conference Children and Teen program accepts all ages from infants (6 months) through high school. All children and teens participating in the program must be registered and complete all corresponding paperwork before they can participate.

Sign-in & Digital Photos

To ensure their safety, children & teens who participate in the program will be photographed initially with their parent or guardian. Only those adults who appear in the photo with the child will be able to sign-out the child from the program.  Additional security measures include parental/guardian sign in / sign out verification for those participating in the program as well as identification wrist bands in which parents are given corresponding tickets to the wristband.

Young Adult Program

This program provides young adults with JA or adult-onset rheumatic disease the unique opportunity to educate themselves and others on rheumatic diseases, while gaining the understanding and toolset necessary to be an advocate for both themselves as well as the cause! Expect an enriching experience that will help attendees develop, transition, and maintain control of their lives in a unique and safe learning space surrounded by their peers. Experts in the field are brought in to present and facilitate discussion on topics specific to challenges as a young adult.  This program welcomes those 18 and older and will explore themes related to medical, social, educational, professional and beyond!

Parent Program

The parent program is designed to help parents learn as much as possible about childhood arthritis, caring for an affected child and the effects the disease can have on the whole family.  The workshops will help answer many of the questions parents have about treatment, the role of the family, school issues, dealing with emotions, coping mechanisms and support opportunities.

SCHOLARSHIPS

A limited number of scholarships may be available in your area. Contact the Arthritis Foundation office in your LOCAL area as they are all coordinated differently. If you need assistance finding your local office, contact Katie Bitner at (404) 965-7538.
