Parenting Perspective:
Traveling

Find a car seat that you can comfortably operate. Before settling on one, test the buckles in the store, much the same way you shop for a highchair.

Keep a travel bag in the car, stocked with feeding supplies, nonperishable food, changing supplies and some toys. That way, all you need to add to the bag is some milk or juice, and you're ready to go.

When you buy a stroller, check its weight as well as its maneuverability. Also, try folding and unfolding it. An umbrella stroller is lightweight and can be kept in the car. Before buying other equipment for your child, be sure to check it out thoroughly. While some parents say they couldn't have done without a chest infant carrier, or for older babies, a backpack, others complain that the straps hurt their shoulders.
