TRAVEL
& ARTHRITIS
Don’t let arthritis keep you from going where you want to
go and doing what you want to do – that includes traveling.
You just may need to do some extra planning.
Since the American with Disabilities Act was passed, more
vacation locales are equipped to help people enjoy their
visit. Make sure that you clearly state your needs
before you leave home. Choose a trip that will allow you
to get the rest you need while still doing something you
love.
Get a hotel
room with an accessible shower or near the elevator
if you have trouble walking.
Don’t know where you want to go? Take a 10-minute mediation
and think about what you’d like to do. Do you want to
have an adventure
vacation, an educational vacation or do you prefer a
good book and no obligations. No matter what you
decide, there’s a vacation out there for you.
If you like cooking, you can spend a week at a cooking
school. Or you could go on a gardening trip to Europe
with like-minded people. Or you could go to some exotic
destination with no demands on your time. Talk to
friends, call a travel agent, look online. Check out our
travel
section for great tips and pointers.
The important thing is to make sure you aren’t spending all
of your time dealing with your arthritis. Prepare in
advance so that you can quickly deal with any problem
that arises and you can get back to having fun!
