Resources for Pain
Part of being able to successfully manage arthritis pain is knowing where you can turn. There are a variety of resources that can help you successfully deal with your pain.
- Know who can help. Talk to your health-care team about ways to manage pain. This group of professionals is coordinated by your doctor.
- Discover tips for a healthier back. A combination of high-calorie diets, inactive lifestyles and increasing hours in front of the desk or computer have caused more and more Americans to gain weight, putting them at risk for chronic health problems, such as back pain and arthritis.
- Take medicines wisely. Many different types of medicines can help control the pain and swelling of arthritis. Your doctor may recommend over-the-counter and/or prescription medications depending on your type of arthritis.
- Discover more Arthritis Foundation resources. Find what you need to take control of arthritis.
- Try the Arthritis Foundation's free brochures Managing Your Pain and Heat and Cold Therapy or purchase the Guide to Pain Management.
- Osteoarthritis of the Knee: A Guide for Adults is available from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
