The Arthritis Foundation convened the fifth biennial Arthritis Research Conference at the Marriott Evergreen Conference Resort in Stone Mountain, Georgia on June 17-19, 2005. The conference brought together over 200 of the best and brightest minds in arthritis research, including fourteen invited speakers who provided state-of-the science lectures on arthritis research, researchers funded by the Arthritis Foundation, and many others with an interest in arthritis research. The conference was designed to stimulate the sharing of scientific progress and ideas. Many exciting and encouraging developments were reported. Recent progress in arthritis research is leading to a better understanding of what causes arthritis, improved ways to detect and monitor disease activity, and new targets for therapies.
