Conference News
We bring you exciting news from the Arthritis Foundation's fourth biennial
Arthritis Research Conference in Keystone, Colorado! The conference brought
together over 200 young and established investigators to share ideas and learn
about the latest advances. Made possible through the generous support of the
American College of Rheumatology, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons,
the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases,
Amgen, Centocor, and Monsanto Protein Technologies, the conference highlighted
many exciting and encouraging developments. Recent progress in arthritis
research is leading to a better understanding of what causes arthritis, improved
ways to detect and monitor disease activity, and new targets for therapies. It
is hoped that these advances in knowledge will dramatically change the lives of
people with arthritis in the near future. The following are some of the
conference highlights. We encourage you to go to the Arthritis Foundation's Web
site for additional information on the conference and for a glossary that
defines all of the italicized words in this newsletter. Read
