Job Description

The Development Director is accountable for the successful planning, implementation and evaluation of the Arthritis Foundation’s fundraising strategies for corporate, special event and foundation revenue.

•    Works with the Divison Vice President to maintain relationships with business and community leaders, media representatives, etc. to promote fundraising activities;
•    Manage a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects, developing fundraising strategies and taking primary responsibility for fulfillment and stewardship;
•    Regularly communicate with staff and volunteers to share progress and key information related to community partnerships;
•    Proactively pursue annual budget goals related to corporate, special event and foundation revenue;
•    Regularly monitor and prepare monthly reports relevant to financial progress, impact and stewardship;
•    Works with the Divison Vice President to achieve goals related to volunteer development and donor stewardship;
•    Fundraising leadership for the local market;
•    Experience in the generation of diverse revenue streams such as annual and major giving, foundations, corporate sponsorships, and special events;
•    Promotes the Foundation to organizations, businesses and other community groups;
•    Participate in educational opportunities to continue to develop skills and knowledge on current fundraising techniques;
•    Serve as the staff liaison for the volunteer Corporate and Foundation Team.  Responsible for working alongside and managing team volunteers to cultivate, solicit and steward prospects.
•    Staffs Board standing committees such as Financial Development and Annual Campaign;
•    Responsible for supervision of local staff as assigned.  
•    All other duties as assigned.

 

Desired Skills & Experience

•    Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, health/social services or related fields;
•    Minimum of three to five years related non-profit experience including fundraising, community development and staff management.
•    Experience with pledge events (walks/runs) or advanced degree a plus;
•    Solid planning, organization, communication, and computerized donor management skills a must;
•    Strong presentation skills, including demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
•    Ability to lift 25 pounds and possess valid driver’s license;
•    Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and to travel throughout the five-state region.

DIVISION VICE PRESIDENT - FULL TIME, EXEMPT POSITION (Central Ohio)

 POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Division Vice President (DVP) is accountable for the successful planning, development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising and volunteer development plan in the Division that achieves measurable income growth annually and ensures strong volunteer leadership is in place in all markets assigned geographic or metropolitan areas. This is accomplished through internal and external collaboration and by utilizing understanding and knowledge of the designated market to expand the Arthritis Foundation's sphere of influence. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY

Supervises staff as assigned. Staffs local market Board and is responsible for Board recruitment and orientation activities. Serves as mentor to those staff that manage Local Boards.  Serves as Lead staff in the Market Office (where other Senior Staff may also reside) and brings Mission and Operations staff to the table when dealing with volunteer and outside relationships.  Participates in the strategic planning process and develops an annual plan of work and budget in support of the Region's strategic plan for the assigned area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•             Collaborates with local volunteers and community leaders to deliver mission and fundraising initiatives;

•             Leads and directs the efforts of all fundraising staff in the Division by monitoring achievement to goals, establishing timelines, training staff, disseminating best practices and coaching for success;

•             Provides leadership, direction and guidance to staff and volunteers in the development of a local plan consistent with the overall Region Strategic Plan;

•             Works with Region (CDO) and other members of the senior leadership team to achieve region goals for fundraising, community outreach, and volunteer recruitment;

•             Develops relationships with key business, civic, political and professional leaders throughout the designated area toward advancing the mission of the Foundation;

•             Identify, cultivate and solicit Major Gift prospects and Corporate sponsorships within the Region

•             Maintains effective relationships with individual donors, corporate and community leaders, public and private organizations and foundations;

•             Event, team leadership, major gift and account management responsibilities as assigned;

•             Attend all events within the Foundation for Development and Programs/Services as assigned.

•             All other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

•             Bachelor's degree in fundraising management, philanthropy or related fields (CFRE preferred);

•             Minimum of five (5) years related non-profit experience including fundraising, community development, and staff management;

•             Demonstrated understanding of fundraising opportunities for not-for-profit organizations;

•             Successful internal and external collaborations and partnership development experience;

•             Must be results-oriented with experience working with and through groups to achieve desired outcomes.

•             Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision;

•             Strong presentation skills, including demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;

•             Ability to lift 25 pounds and possess valid driver’s license;

•             Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and to travel throughout the five-state region.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (Pittsburgh, PA)


FULL TIME, EXEMPT POSITION

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Community Development Manager is responsible for all aspects of special events fundraising including planning, execution and evaluation. This is accomplished through collaboration and knowledge of the designated market to expand the fundraising capability of special events. This position reports directly to the Development Director.

 

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

  • Within the Foundation:
    • The Community Development Manager works closely with Development Director, local market and region staff and volunteers to coordinate fundraising events. Maintains working relationships with all staff and volunteers.
  • Outside the Foundation:
    • The Community Development Manager maintains relationships with business and community leaders, media representatives, etc. to promote fundraising activities.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY

  • None

ESSENTIAL FUCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • With the Development Director, establish specific annual goals and budgets in relation to the Strategic Plan;
  • Secure new and maintain established relationships for sponsorship and in-kind donations;
  • Create marketing and public relations materials;
  • Communicate with site host regarding event needs, restrictions and process;
  • Work with committee to establish new ideas and relationships to execute event;
  • Make regular updates to event websites and social media sites;
  • Provide regular reports to the Director of Development;
  • Assure each event has a solid, active, working committee to oversee and assist with event tasks, monitoring timelines and outcomes;
  • Works on the development of collaborative relationships and volunteer recruitment;
  • Recruit new committee members or chair when appropriate;
  • Be actively involved in community activities to promote the Foundation;
  • Monitor and update event timelines to ensure each event is on schedule;
  • Actively gather and apply new information and methods that will improve each event’s operations and success from national, regional and local resources;
  • Attends and participates in statewide or regional meetings, development staff and committee meetings as required;
  • Attend all events within the Foundation for Development and Programs/Services as required;
  • All other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred) in event planning, hospitality or related fields, or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of two years related experience;
  • Strong presentation skills, including demonstrated verbal and written communication skills;
  • Successful internal and external collaborations and partnership experience;
  • Must be results-oriented with experience working with and through groups to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and possesses valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and to travel throughout the territory and occasional travel within the five state Region.
