The Power of Our Voices: A First Time Advocacy Summit Experience

Last month I was lucky enough to attend the annual Arthritis Foundation Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C.  where adults and children affected by arthritis come from every corner of the United States to learn how to effectively speak about arthritis advocacy priorities and build continuing relationships with their members of Congress and their staff.  Read more about Caitlin’s first time experience at the Advocacy Summit and what our advocates accomplished.

The One-of-a-Kind Juvenile Arthritis Conference

The Juvenile Arthritis Conference is the Arthritis Foundation’s signature, nationwide event for families affected by juvenile arthritis. Join us for this four-day educational event that focuses on health, wellness and fun for children affected by arthritis, lupus, myositis, ankylosing spondylitis and other rheumatic diseases. The whole family is invited! Specific educational tracks focus on issues relating to parents, teens and young adults, children affected by arthritis and their siblings.

2014 Walk to Cure Arthritis National Honoree

One of our Arthritis Foundation Great Lakes Region volunteers, Mayro Kanning, is the 2014 National Walk to Cure Arthritis Adult Honoree.  Mayro has lived 34 years or nearly half her life with rheumatoid arthritis.  Her volunteerism with the Arthritis Foundation’s Ohio River Valley market is extraordinary and her Arthritis Walk team – Mayro’s Milers - has raised more than $264,000 since 2003.  Click here to sign up for a walk in your area today and join Mayro in her efforts  to raise money and awareness for the 53 million adults and 300,000 children living with America’s number one cause of disability.


Great Lakes Region Researcher Headed to Paris to Present Poster at OARSI Conference

Veronica Ulici, MD, Ph.D, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh and an Arthritis Foundation-funded researcher, will present a poster in Paris, France later this month about her research on molecular changes to cartilage in post-traumatic osteoarthritis, or arthritis that results from an injury to a joint.  Click here to read more about this important research.
