RACHAEL OGDEN

Rachael Ogden is an 11 year old girl who was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis at 5 years old. Over the years arthritis has affected her feet, fingers and, at times, both of her knees and wrists. Some of the activities she liked best, such as gymnastics, were the very things she had to stop doing because of arthritis pain and stiffness. On some days, her mother had to help her get dressed and there were even days that she couldn’t get to school on time because of the pain. She spent time at both pool and occupational therapy to help her knees and wrists. Sometimes she actually enjoyed the therapies because she got to go in the hot tub. She has been on many medications until her doctors were able to find one that worked. Now she is able to play basketball, roller-skate, and play at the beach with her friends and family without any pain. She is honored to be chosen as a 2010 Community Hero for the Hudson Valley Arthritis Walk. She asks that everyone please join her and support the Arthritis Foundation to help find a cure for kids and people like her living with arthritis.
