The Arthritis Foundation is about people - people who need our programs, services, support and education, and people who commit their time and resources to the accomplishment of the Foundation's mission. The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases.
The Mission will be accomplished by:
Funding research that adds to the scientific knowledge about arthritis, its causes and methods of treatment.
Conducting education programs for health professionals to better understand arthritis and effective methods of treatment.
Providing community education and support services for people with arthritis and their families.
Informing the public about arthritis and about the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
Advocating the interests of people affected by arthritis.
Seeking funds from the public to support programs and services.

A vital part of our mission begins with our volunteers. We must ensure that the millions of Americans who already have arthritis, and the millions more soon to be confronted with the pain and limitations of the disease, are able to maintain an active lifestyle and participate fully in work, family, recreation and society.
There are many volunteer opportunities available including:
- Office Support, Clerical Work
- Bulk Mailings
- Public Speaking
- Health Fairs
- Self-Help Course Leaders
- Fundraising - Special Events
On behalf of the more than 1.5 million people in the Upstate New York Chapter area alone who are affected by arthritis, their families and the Arthritis Foundation staff nationwide, thank you for your interest in becoming an Arthritis Foundation volunteer.
