Donor Spotlight - Suresh Sani

The New York Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation is proud to feature our newest spotlight donor. Get to know Suresh as he shares his story and why he continues to support the Foundation's mission.

Name:  Suresh

Where I Live:  Port Washington, NY

Arthritis Foundation Supporter Since:  2005

Why I'm a Supporter: My 13 year old daughter has Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and has been suffering with it since she was 7 years old. She was my initial reason for supporting the Arthritis Foundation. After getting more involved in the organization, however, my continued and increased support is due to my observing all the things the Arthritis Foundation does to fund research and better the quality of lives of the individuals that suffer from arthritis.

How Arthritis Affects Me: Arthritis personally affects me through my daughter. When she first started suffering, I used to worry each morning – concerned as to which joint would be bothering her that day. Although her disease, thankfully, is currently under control with medication, that feeling every morning has not changed. As I have met more children and adults inflicted with some form of arthritis, I have become more motivated to help.

Others Should Support the Foundation Because: With 46 million Americans currently suffering from arthritis and soon to increase to 64 million, we all have friends or family members inflicted with this horrible disease and all the help is needed.

My Perfect Day Is: When all 3 of my daughters (including the one with RA) are happy and healthy to the extent possible and living a normal life.

Favorite Words to Live By: "Do not complain - deal with it and do the best you can."    "Stay positive."    "Be thankful."

The Difference I Hope My Gift Makes:  I view my gift as the money I donate and the time I spend helping the Arthritis Foundation. The difference I hope the money makes is that it does fund research to eventually find a cure for RA – “stay positive.” With respect to the time spent, I am hoping to improve the lives of the people suffering from the disease and aiding in allowing them to live normal productive lives – “deal with it and do the best you can.” Finally, I also hope my gift inspires others to give their form of gift as well whether it is through dollars or time.

Thanks to the generosity of donors like Suresh, the New York Chapter has seen over 60 years of success. If you wish to make a gift or have any questions about the Chapter's work, please contact Amy Promisel at (212) 984-8705.
