Today, one in five people in the U.S. suffers from the pain of arthritis. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) projects that by the year 2030, 67 million people in the U.S. will live with arthritis, up from current estimates of 50 million. Arthritis can be a serious and sometimes deadly disease, but its effects may be lessened through physical activity.

Let’s Move Together is a nationwide movement led by the Arthritis Foundation that encourages people to move to prevent and effectively treat arthritis. In addition to causing pain, disability and loss of independence, arthritis exacts a hefty financial toll on the U.S. economy costing the nation $128 billion annually. People can join Let’s Move Together by committing to participate in their local 2010 Arthritis Walk events around the country.

To honor Arthritis Heroes in our community the Arthritis Foundation, Nebraska Chapter will be featuring a new “Face of Arthritis” each month on our Chapter web page. This recognition is not limited by age and can also be in honor of an individual who has recently passed. Each month will feature a picture of the chosen Arthritis Hero and their inspirational story.

Tell us your story! If you or someone you know suffers from one of the many forms of arthritis we would love to hear your inspirational story! One of the chosen stories could even become our Arthritis Walk Honoree for the following year!

Rules & Regulations

1. Please submit your name (and the name of the Arthritis Hero), address, phone number, recent photograph and email address to:

2. Included in each story should be:
   • Name
   • Age
   • Type of Arthritis
   • Date diagnosed
   • Struggles/Successes
   • Any additional information you would like us to know
3. Submissions must be made by the first of each month in order to be considered for the following month. (i.e. Submit by November 1st to be considered for December’s “Face of Arthritis”).
4. Individuals chosen will be contacted within two weeks of submission.
5. Each submission will be kept on file for 12 months and must be resubmitted after 12 months if submission was not chosen.
6. Each story will only be featured one time.
7. Of the 12 stories chosen one individual will be chosen to become the Arthritis Walk Honoree for the following year.
