Most people don’t think about children having arthritis but more than 3,000 children in the Kansas City Metro area have some form of this painful disease. Our Art for Arthritis event teams as many as 20 local children affected by juvenile arthritis with area artists to spend a summer together creating unique pieces of artwork. The art is then auctioned off at the Art for Arthritis event in order to raise money for nationwide arthritis research, as well as local programs and services.
This event, however, is much more than a fundraiser. It affords local children with arthritis an introduction to the arts and teaches them to utilize art as an alternative method of self-expression free from the restrictions their disease.
Art for Arthritis also empowers participants by introducing them to other children with similar circumstances and encouraging them to work together to fight against arthritis by raising awareness and helping to support the agency that advocates on their behalf.
The Art for Arthritis event is a two-part art showcase and auction that kicks off with an open-house preview party on August 2, 2013 at Snow and Company in the Crossroad’s district of Kansas City, Missouri. Artists, Junior Artists, families and loyal patrons gather for a sneak-peak at the children’s work, cocktail-style hors d’oeuvres and a meet-and-greet with the participants.
The main event will be held on September 6, 2013, beginning at 6 p.m., at The Carriage Club located in Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza District. Around 350+ guests are expected to attend the relaxed, evening cocktail party that plays host to the main event; the much-anticipated live art auction and an extensive silent auction.
