College athletics are built around competition.  But even rivals can team together when the cause is right.  

Arthritis is this country’s leading cause of disability.  It’s not just an old person’s disease, either.  I’ve seen its painful effects in athletes and coaching colleagues. That’s why I’ve we’ve joined with Bill Self and Bonnie Henrickson of KU in a friendly competition to help the Arthritis Foundation.  We have formed virtual teams of walkers for the May14th Arthritis Walk here in Manhattan, just as Coaches Self and Henrickson are doing for the Lawrence Arthritis Walk.  Bill and Bonnie say they will have more walkers and raise more money than our teams.   But we proved them wrong last year and are asking you to help prove them wrong again in 2011!  Show your Wildcat Pride and help fight arthritis.  Follow this link   http://awmanhattan.kintera.org and click on “Rivals for a Cure” to donate online or to register to walk.   Or go to www.arthritis.org, keyword “rivals” to learn more.
