Will Insurance Cover Braces?

Braces range in cost from less than $100 for off-the-shelf models to more than $1,000 for custom-made versions. Many insurance plans, including Medicare and managed care plans, may not cover the full cost of braces if they are covered at all. How much you pay also depends on your deductible and/or the amount of your co-pay.

Be sure to find out if your health-care insurance provider will pay for braces before you buy one or agree to have one made for you.

Ask your insurance company representative how much you will have to pay for a brace and about any restrictions on coverage, such as provision requiring you to go to a certain type of health-care professional or a particular facility for evaluation, design and fitting of a brace.
